Pact, an Adoption Alliance

  • Domestic Infant Adoption
  • Post Adoption Services

Pact is a different kind of adoption organization—honest, child-centered, and anti-racist.

Since 1991, Pact’s mission has always been to serve adopted children of color. In every case, the child is always our primary client. In order to best serve children’s needs, we provide not only lifelong education, support, and community, but also adoptive placement. Our goal is for every child to feel wanted, honored and loved, a cherished member of their communities with proud connections to their cultural heritage. We advocate for honesty and authenticity in matters of race and adoption.

We focus on 5 key areas of program delivery:

Pact Family Camp Pact Family Camps provide a transformative learning and community-building experience for over 400 youth and adult campers each year. Creating a highly inclusive space at Pact Family Camp is a top priority.

Adoptive Parents of Color Collaborative The needs of BIPOC adoptive and foster parents have been under-served in the field of adoption, where white parents’ needs are given priority. Pact’s Adoptive Parents of Color Collaborative (APCC) works to rectify these disparities, so that adoptive/foster parents of color get the specific support and resources they require to successfully meet their children’s needs.

Center for Race & Adoption Focused Therapy Children and youth across the United States are experiencing a mental health crisis, which is only exacerbated by the complexity of adoption. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult for families and individuals to find adoption-competent therapists of color. Pact’s Center for Race & Adoption Focused Therapy (CRAFT) serves adoptees of color ranging in age from 3 to 26 years old, and their families.

Education & Support Programs Adoption doesn’t end at placement—in fact, it’s just getting started. Pact offers education, community and support to adopted people of color and their families on the lifelong journey of adoption. Pact offers

  • Peer-facilitated support groups for BIPOC adoptees, first/birth parents and adoptive/foster parents
  • Cutting edge education with monthly webinars
  • Professional development and training for child-serving professionals
  • Private consultations for adoption constellation members
  • Membership services, which are free for the first year to first-time members

Adoption Agency: Modeling Ethical, Anti-Racist Practice We support pregnant people in exploring all their options, including abortion (when relevant) and parenting their own children whenever possible; many who contact us decide not to pursue adoption. When adoption is necessary we facilitate open adoption placements.
